was the test comprehensive? I mean, did they smear for yeast and bacteria and protozoa? and did they say which bacteria exactlly is involved? Treatment would be very different if it were, say, chlamydia.

I still think it's mostly yeast (the smell is an indicator, yeasty smell) with just opportunistic bacteria making the issue more intense than usual. But either way, the best treatment is:

cleanse the area. The ol' finger douche is highly recommended, as is a weak solution of apple cider vinegar and water. Suppositories of live acidophilus should help the immune system fight off pathogenic bacteria.
Cleanse all paths of elimination.
Follow an immune-support diet. (no sugar, no junk, lots of kombucha tea.)
Take good probiotics orally and via enemas.
