I actually agree with his consensus not to get the mercury out. People who rashly get their mercury fillings, out with out balancing their tissue pH and getting enough protective calcium and minerals in the brush border cells of the gut, risk worsening their health problems.

One thing he didn't factor in, however, is the mixed metal effects. Mercury fillings become much, much more dangerous when their is 2 or more different types of metal in the mouth. When this happens, mercury leaches out much more. (I'll quote the exact amount later, but I am trying to re-locate this document)

Thankfully, we are getting to the point where porcelain and ceramic fillings are available that are beginning to match the biological properties of the teeth. Thus, never get a metal filling again.

Composite fillings are often not much better than mercury. While they present less mercury, they are much more prone to cracking. With micro-cracks comes dental infections that are very hard to detect.

Anyway, I don't agree with his assessment. I think he is understating the problem. For most people, the mercury fillings don't appear to be a huge problem. However, they become more of an issue when people get more acidic, become more toxic, and have mixed metal fillings. Mercury fillings are basically an interference field in the mouth and can have more subtle, harder to detect effects.

One of the reasons the Amalgam dentistry issue hasn't blown wide open yet is that it is very difficult to prove that mercury fillings are causing the problem. Of course, many of us have already had metal removed and know that mercury IS a problem.
