probiotics and carbohydrates

I'm confused about something. If someone is taking probiotics but is not eating many carbohydrates, will the probiotics still be able to colonize in the intestines? I mean, since they are bacteria, they need complex carbohydrates to survive just like any other bacteria, yeast, etc., right? What is the best way to feed beneficial bacteria without feeding the bad guys?

Any info is appreciated! :)
