Newbie asks re Candida Testing (UK)
Hi.
I have for some years suspected that I may suffer from a candida problem. My various symptoms began in 1996 and seemed to coincide with ending a year long course of the tetracycline minocin (for acne). The main problems for me were hives, anxiety, flushing, stomach cramps and ibs. In 1999, I began a strict anti-candida diet and was astounded at how well I felt after a month or so. However, after a year of this, I became a bit jaded and cynical and started to doubt my own mind and so returned to a normal diet. I have since been diagnosed as being lactose intolerant but I still suffer various symptoms and have remained curious as to the extent to which candida may be playing a part.
I always seem to test as probably having a yeast problem on the various questionnaires available. I've also visited an alternative nutritionist who diagosed a candida overgroth using a combination of kinesiolgy and questionnaire.
Despite this, I remain sceptical - maybe it is "all in my head" as my GP implies. I'd therefore like to find out once and for all whether I do have a candida problem. To this end. I'd like to know what people's views are as to the best way to test for it. I'm thinking of trying either the Dysbiosis Markers test from iwl labs or the postal test offered by Cambridge nutricional. Anyone have any experience or thoughts?
Many thanks.
