Re: Baby Matters Author
This is to the Spindell family,
My husband and I know what you are going through. We had twp local CPS workers along with two armed policemen come into our church on during a midday Sunday Service looking for our little family. We had over 500 members and it was quite an ordeal. We just happen to have left church about a half an hour before they arrived, something we had never done before but my husband had a meeting out of town and we all decided to go. Later that afternoon after returning home we found a note yes the note on the door asking us to call them. We got a witness and put our son down for a nap he was very tired from the traveling we had done and we called them. They along with the two policemen came right out and first thing they asked to see the child (18 month old) baby boy. We woke him up they wanted us to undress him he was so sleepy he didn't know what was happening to him. We did as they asked, they found nothing then they asked to look in our ice box we asked them if they had a search warrant and they told us they did not need one. I followed them because I did not trust them. They asked what we fed the child and we told them that his food was in the cupboard but they were not interested they wanted to know what we ate. We had told them that we were vegetarians. They wanted to search the rest of the house I followed them everywhere they went. They wanted to know why our son was small for his size so we showed them medical records that answered their questions but they did not care they asked us to dress him and took him away. Of course we cried, our friend prayed with us it was a very stressful day for us. We went to court a couple of days later where the Judge said,"If you cared as much about this child as you do about being vegetarian you would not be here". We live in the middle of the meat and dairy industry. Caring about our son meant that we wanted to feed him the best way possible but as you know these people believe that you have to eat meat and dairy to be healthy and if you neglect to do so you have committed a crime and you will be punished. But they are hurting the very children that they claim to want to protect.
We were in the process of adopting our son after he was taken away they gave him to a non-vegetarian family to adopt and we never saw him again.
Please know that you have committed no crime, hold your head up and get as much support as you possibly can. If we tell our stories and keep the faith and band together we can make much needed changes for all of us.
God Bless You
Shirley and James Dumas
