It's "banned" in north america (can't be sold as or in a food) in a stunning display of government corruption and greed. It's really disgusting, and so obvious that only the truly deluded can't see how big business has bought the law. It would compete with proprietary synthetic sweeteners, which are much cheaper to produce and hence more profitable. Adding stevia to food would cost an enormous amount of money to the food industry, companies like nutrasweet won't allow it. They bought the laws to keep it out of food, plain and simple. Some minor research will easily uncover the whole nasty thing. Luckily they haven't kept it completley out of people's hands, yet.
