Re: what's a good brand of probiotic?
Although I've never used it, I've heard good things about Primal Defense as well. And, per Steve's comments, "the proof is in the pudding." (If it works...it works!)
"One of the points made that stuck out most to me is how most
probiotics require refridgeration.. well if they are so fragile that they must be kept cool like that, then just imagine what your stomach acids are going to do to them."
I've seen that comment too on their website. Although their product appears quite effective, I hate it when firms make distortive BS comments like this. First, storage temperature and gut acidity have nothing to do with each other. Second, since these are living creatures, refrigeration is not "needed" so much as it's simply a way to ensure full potency and reduce product deterioration, not much different than the way a container of eggs or head of lettuce will fare better when cooled rather than room temperature. On expensive, refrigerated probiotics I've seen the instructions "When refrigeration is not available, storing product at room temp for up to 2 weeks will not significantly reduce product potency." Plus, the best strains of all probiotics are said to be designed to better withstand stomach acid, regardless of their form.
(Steve: These comments aren't directed at you, but at Primal Defense's marketing. I agree with your other insightful comments above!)
