Can't it be the main reason why religion worked againts the progress of humanity was they worship God according to human knowledge and understanding?

As an example, from the bible women were giving birth independently and on squating position. But today, women were dependent and lying on bed while giving birth. Is this progress or the reverse?

Would it be best therefore that we worship God according to his direction and guidelines?
