My post was partly in jest... I know St Augustine was not agnostic but his description of god does describe agnosticism. At least past the point of knowing absolutely nothing about god, only that god exists. How can one be absolutely convinced of god's positive traits, yet be so sure that we can not even begin to describe or understand him? If one is so enlightened to know that god exists, why is it such a stretch to know anything more about him? With his description of god St Augustine could be considered closer to agnostic than theist.
