The Computer's First Christmas Card
A man named Edwin Morgan programmed his computer to scan all the information it had
about Christmas, and write a Christmas Card.
Here's the card that the computer wrote. I
think you'll enjoy it, if you read it aloud.
Jollymerry, hollyberry, jollyberry, merryholly,
Happyjolly, jollyjelly, jellybelly,
bellymerry,
Hollyheppy, jollyMolly, marryJarry, MarryHarry,
HappyBarry, happyJarry, boppyheppy,
berryjorry
Jorryjolly, moppyjelly, Mollymerry, Jerryjolly,
Bellyhoppy, jorryhoppy, hollymoppy,
Barrymerry
Jarryhappy, happyboppy, bobbyjolly,
jollymerry.
Admit it! That's a better Christmas card than
many you've received over the years. There's
nothing pretentious about it. Just the sounds
of Christmas, shaken, stirred, and blended in
a deliciously zany way.
These darned computers are smarter than we think they are. And they're pretty good poets,
too.
Jollymoppy, you all!
