Corey...Great Post! A big thumbs "UP"!!!
Corey...How in the world did I miss this? I see it was posted 31 days ago. This
is absolutely fantastic and makes me long for the days of my childhood. What an
enormous blessing it would have been if our kids could have grown up in the "good
old days". My husband says all the time that I'm "stuck in the 50's". That would
have been a good era to be stuck in, if a person ever did get stuck in an era. I
feel so blessed to have been a child growing up in a small town in the 50's. And
what a shame that we had to get so 'advanced' that we went 'downhill' instead of
up.
When we travel, we like to go to little towns across the country where time has kind
of stood still. Oh yes, they're crammed full of stores selling 'replicas' from
our by gone days at prices that would have caused a cardiac arrest to our grandparents. But the feeling of real peace is still there in most of them. When
we go to one of those towns...I just don't want to leave.
We live in a little town called "Metropolis". So what do you think of when you
think of "Metropolis"? Most people think of Superman, Clark Kent, Lois Lane. They
think of the 50's and a slower paced life, quaint little homes and mom and pop
businesses. Well, maybe that's just me...because I was born and raised here. We
have a population of about 10,000 and they're always trying to find ways to bring
tourism here. In fact, the city has spent tens of thousands of dollars quadrupled a
dozen times over...to hire "professional planners" to tell us how to bring tourism
to our little town. DUH! We're already known nationally as the home of Superman and
have an annual Superman celebration where thousands come from all over the country.
How embarrassing it is to many residents here, during the Superman celebration...
knowing people are planning vacations around our little town thinking they're
coming to a little 50's town...only to find a big Riverboat Casino...historic buildings being torn down and replaced with fancy architech, etc. I would be glad
to tell them how to bring tourism to Metropolis and wouldn't charge them a dime...
but no one will listen. So many people now days, go around with their heads in
the clouds. Every thing is money, money, money! If more people could only know
what the really important things in life are...before it's too late for them.
Thank you so much for your post. I put out a little motivational/inspirational/humorous newsletter called The Encourager...and I always
put what I call a "WOW" story on the back page. I'll have to cut this down some...
but it's definitely going on the back page of my Encourager. Thanks again. kathryn
