There have also been atheists since the beginning of humankind. In fact, as I wrote on a different thread, I believe the vast majority of people are atheists who are not brave enough, or don't care enough about the matter, to recognize it.

Assuming for a moment that religions are somewhat "pure" at their origins, it does not take long for them to be organized, fouled and turned into weapons to control the minds of the people.
