It seems that way doesn’t it. The idea that we have to be pretty well mangled before adopt a position of reasonableness.

The idea was put to me early in my sobriety that God’s great gift to alcoholics is pain, deep, unrelenting and pervasive spiritual pain. It seems like it is the only gift I as an alcoholic deep in my addiction was capable of receiving. And this power greater than myself gave me a heaping helping of it.

When I finally cried uncle, or as I heard it put once, when the student is ready, the teacher will appear, I found myself in the company of sober men. They told me what they had done, and they told me what they had gotten in turn, and I wanted it.

If someone new to sobriety is reading this, it’s a program that really works. You don't want to miss out on the good stuff.
