Re: the windows to unix question

If you'd like to kick it up a notch (it being complexity), yes, you can house both Windows and Linux on the same hard drive. There are a couple different methods, the one I've seen is dual-boot. This may come as no surprise but the majority of hassles to be experienced with dual boot is that Windows will insist on controlling the boot sector of your hard drive. This is couple-year-old information, perhaps some good work arounds have since been developed.

I suspect a similar type of step-by-step instruction for dual-boot setup can be found at Tom's and other similar sites. My personal advice - if you are going to wean yourself from windows, go all the way, cut all ties rather than hanging on to a combo unix/windows setup. Perhaps after a year or so working in only the unix environment, you may be content to stay that way OR perhaps decide to then add windows back into the mix.

PS - I agree, I copied all Part 1 and Part 2 instructions to my system, the instructional videos too, for possible future use. It seems like a fairly thorough explanation.
