Gilberts and skin diseases?

Hi. I am 26 years old, male. I was diagnosed a few days ago with Lichen Planus, which is this extremely annoying inflammatory skin disease. Basically, I have developed small red bumps all over. Some itch, but most do not. They are not all that nice to look at - mostly on my ankles, feet, thighs, and inner wrists. As usual, this is incurable (what else is new), and the doctors are a bunch of clowns, writing their typical corticosteroid prescriptions which does absolutely nothing to provide relief from the underlying problem, which I have reason to believe is a liver problem. They don't even ask me about how this might fit into my medical history!!

Let me give a little background about me. I work long hours, have not been going to the gym for the past 6 months, still in good shape though (6'3". 185 lbs).

In the past, I have had elevated bilirubin in my blood tests, and the doc attributed it to Gilbert's disease where you "harmlessly" have high amounts of bilirubin in your blood.

In addition, I have had terrible skin problems for years - cystic acne, angiofibromas on my forehead (this is basically an overgrowth of capillaries that I subsequently treated with lasers to reduce them), and some hyperpigmentation. All of these things, including this lichen planus crap, seem like very inflammatory skin conditions.

Can someone, anyone, please give me some direction here as to my next move? My doctors are awful - they haven't helped at all and I have seen so many of them.

1. Should I see a liver specialist or homeopath?
2. Where do I begin to learn about alternative medicine? I am a neophyte - I wouldn't even know where to buy most of these herbs and roots. I'm just a regular young guy and there is so much information out there that I am confused by it all. I have never done a liver cleanse or any of the things talked about on these forums. Again, I would not know where to begin and what things are safe or effective.

Please help.

Thanks.

Joe
