Re: Canola vs rape seed

> I note on your site that you used canola and rape seed interchangably but I do belive that this is incorrect. Canola was oringinaly bred from rape seed but it has become a very different plant and yeilding a very different oil that rape seed. Canola is a trade mark of the Canadian Canola Council and only seed that meets it's standard can use the Canola name. There is rape seed that is still grown but here in Canada must be sold in IP contract for special crushing. Please do not use them interchangably as it is very misleading. Yes rape seed was the original plant that canola comes from. It may sound misleading but canola is now an hybred from rape so its quite simular. Just to let people know, rape seed oil(canola) is used for heavy equiptment to grease the various moving parts. Despite the "claims" of canola oil being so good for you, I think over time it will become clear that this product like margarine is a unfit for human consumption. Just imagine the process this seed has to go through in order to yield edible oil. There are only a few edible oils which are olive, and flax. Almost all others have been turned into transfatty acids .For further study look for the book "Fats that Heal and Fats that Kill" by Udo Erasmus. I also would do a study on the process of making canola oil and decide for yourself.
