Hair and the nervous system

For years on here, hair has been talked about and what it's potential other functions are and how it's important. Not sure if it was here or somewhere else where I saw a story about Native Americans that joined the US military in the Vietnam war, and had all of their hair cut off and lost their initution and sense of their surroundings. Something to the effect that they couldn't be snuck up on while sleeping if they had long hair, if I remember right, but I read that maybe ten years ago so I may be wrong. A native person mentions on this website in the comments about them believing it's connected nervous system and to the pineal gland. Along with women saying they were a lot more sensitive with long hair and lost the ability when having some cut off.
