I have AF and I can't even get to sleep if I don't drink tea of licorice root + holy basil. Whenever I stop them, my anxiety and insomnia starts to go trough the roof.
I am taking quite some other AF herbs, such as (but not limited to):
Rhodiola (currently taking only 150 mg) - can't think and work well without it, 300mg, however, gives me anxiety
Ashwaganda - sometimes I feel more relaxed from it, but I am not sure I am getting any serious benefits from it. Plus it irritates my stomach which is not in good shape anyway. Prefer to stop it.
Gingko Biloba - not sure about the benefits, but I have also serious concentration and circulation issues
Reishi mushroom spores - literally I can't live without it
AFA Klamath algae - also helps me work
Now, I want to put to minimum all the herbs I take and most of anything else I want to cut off the licorice root. Because it is cutting down my testosterone, which is low anyway (I read in a study it can lower it by 26%). As a male, I don't feel well with low testosterone.
The problem is, it seems nothing else but both licorice root and holy basil can get me to sleep. Yesterday I tried stopping the licorice root and woke up with anxiety at 4 AM, after hardly getting to sleep at around 1 AM. Couldn't get asleep till past 8 AM.
Today I tried Maca, but after the first calm wave I got anxiety from it.
What can I replace the licorice root with? I don't know why I can't get off it, but I guess it is doing something to the cortisol. Maybe some other potent cortisol balancing herb might help.
P.S. My last test showed reversed cortisol of 2. something in the morning and 7+ in the evening.
