The Eyes
Foods rich in Vit A, Vit B & Vit C, together with the minerals selenium and zinc help promote good eyesight and help to fight free radicals (see below). These vitamins and minerals are all contained in fresh fruit and vegetables. Include in your diet; broccoli, raw cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, green vegetables - particularly spinach, sunflower seeds and watercress. Drugs which can affect eyesight include: aspirin, anticoagulants, some anti-depressants, corticosteroids, HRT, marijuana, etc., check any medication you are taking for side effects. Eye muscles can be exercised & relaxed to improve their function. The Bates Method is very popular as an aid to improve eyesight, and life without glasses.
Avoid dairy products, any any fats or oils that have been subject to heat, whether by chemical processing (hydrogenated) or cooking. These foods promote formation of free radicals which can damage the lens. Use virgin olive oil or cold pressed oils. Free radicals are freely moving atoms, or groups of atoms, which can break down the proteins and fats used by the body to manufacture the walls of body cells. Free radicals can be reduced by taking antioxidants (see appendix five). Grape seed extract is a powerful antioxidant.
Milk sugars (lactose) and refined white sugars have been shown to be a major contributor to cataract growth because of the body's inability to cope with food sugars (Science Magazine).
