Finds and publication
P. Oxy. 1
Nag Hammadi Codex II, folio 32, the beginning of the Gospel of Thomas
The manuscript of the Coptic text (CG II), found in 1945 at Nag Hammadi, Egypt, is dated at around 340 AD. It was first published in a photographic edition in 1956.[15] This was followed three years later (1959) by the first English-language translation, with Coptic transcription.[16] In 1977, James M. Robinson edited the first complete collection of English translations of the Nag Hammadi texts.[17] The Gospel of Thomas has been translated and annotated worldwide in many languages.
and as for the scholarship on the book? mostly bunk. people cant take a step without imagining its taking them to their own personal shangri la. there is only one way to know for sure - follow jesus.
but we know what kind of jesus the orthodoxy has in mind. so they must force new data to conform to their trinity idol. the scholars want to claim this is a gnostic writing. ppffftt. it is modern christianity which is gnostic in nature. their twist is not that you obtain a certain piece of information that saves you, you must instead believe certain fantastical things without explanation and without ever considering anything else because thats just the devil trying to trap you. so when you are making up your suppositions and your proofs about another "infinite vacuum of space", no one can possibly bring firm evidence to bear against this fantasy. it will have to be wiped out by the hand of god.
its gross. i dont know how god puts up with any of us.
and to end this mini sermon on a positive note, i believe the Jesus Seminar in their book "the five gospels" and that the book of thomas carries a greater percentage of the true words of christ than the other gospels. i am getting to know the book better.
