I learned to roller skate when I was 13 years old. The local town had a rink and it was open all summer. I got quite good at it although nothing fancy but if anyone fell over I could jump over them and land on my feet again. But here is the thing, my big sister introduced my younger sister and me to that skating rink when I was 9 and she took us there in what she thought was two new pretty striped blue and silver dresses that actually went to the floor and had a little bow at the top. I kept wondering why people were looking at us and it wasn't until we got home travelling on the bus that my mum said to my sister you never took them there in their new nighties! Yes it turned out my mum had got us a long pretty new night dress each and we went roller skating in them. We went on the bus and back wearing them. Tweet
