Re: Exfoliative Cheilitis as a Manifestation of Factitial Cheilitis

I think anyone who has lips like this would have an element of depression/anxiety! I mean who the heck wants to have lips like that!

Personally i don't agree with the majority of this article. I have seen previous articles like that stating ec as factitial chilitis.

The lady just has a standard case of exfoliative chilitis. The reason it looks chronic is because she has left her scales/crust to build up. Anyone who has ec if they leave their lips alone the crusts will become extreme.

There are millions of people with anxiety and psychiatric conditions I'm sure if ec was affiliated with something like anxiety it would be a very common condition.

Their has been previous posters who have been treated by psychiatric treatments and have seen no resolution to their symptoms.

Its so frustrating how doctors try to state this and that. For example the old its because of your toothpaste or you have a fungus infection or its because you lick your lips or this and the t hat etc etc. i been told lots of different things by different kinds of doctors. NO NO NO the cause of ec is unknown like a lot of other skin conditions unfortunately.

I think over time we mature and learn better how to address the condition I'm sure most people like myself when the condition first started was in shock and had an element of all the secondary issues which most people with severe skin conditions suffer. People with skin conditions like eczema/acne/psoriasis/rosacea etc etc all suffer from secondary issues like anxiety Depression etc etc a good dermatologist knows this and addresses this with their patient.

Thats my opinion of course!

Hope everybody has been doing okay!
