Has anyone had bad effects after a root canal?

Hey! I had a root canal a few days back. When the dentist suggested undergoing a root canal, I discussed it with my family and friends. And I got mixed reviews from them. Some of them said that it is a safe procedure while others said that it is a horrible and painful method. Since my dentist told that the root canal was the only solution for my infected tooth, I agreed to undergo the procedure. But I was really nervous about undergoing the procedure. The procedure wasn't really as bad as I feared. Everything went out well. Two days after the root canal, I noticed swelling of the area around the treated tooth and I was having throbbing pain in that area. That was the worst pain I've ever felt.
