"MANILA, Philippines — Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III has fired two officials of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
They are Lourdes Santiago, the acting FDA deputy-general for Field Regulatory Operations office, and Dr. Benjamoc Co, the FDA director IV of the Center for Drug Regulation and Research.
This is in connection with the health department’s investigation on the agency’s move to issue a certificate of product registration to pharmaceutical giant Sanofi Pasteur’s Dengvaxia vaccines.
The health secretary said Santiago participated in the approval of the market authorization application for Dengvaxia, while Co admitted receiving an initial copy of the document of application of Sanofi that was saved in a flash drive.
Duque explained that the said officials’ removal will help ensure transparency in the assessment being conducted by the FDA." — UNTV News & Rescue
