I tried using Xylitol, but I'm having mixed results. I chewed a piece of Xylitol gum once a day for about a year and was getting surprisingly good results when I went to my hygienist for my 6 month cleanings. Very little tartar buildup was present on my teeth even though I usually have a pretty heavy build-up. Then I switched from a piece of gum a day to simply using a little Xylitol sweetener that I bought a 5 LB bag of. I would put some in my mouth and swish it around for 2 minutes and then swallow twice a day. I figured this would be at least as good as using the gum. Then at my next cleaning appointment with my hygienist, the results were pretty bad. I had a heavy buildup on my teeth, and it was a white crusty substance. I'm starting to wonder if the stuff I got was even Xylitol. I just put it on my oatmeal now, but it doesn't sweeten it like Sugar does.
Has anyone else here tried what I did and gotten better or worse results?
