How much water should be consumed daily during a fast?

My goal was to consume nearly a gallon of distilled water a day, but that might deplete electrolytes faster. What is the recommended amount or, for any experienced fasters, what amount did you aim for? I was also hoping to incorporate one day of dry fasting a week during my 40 day fast. Would that be a bad idea?
