water fasting in Ramadan and with hypothyroidism medication
Hello everyone!
First, I would like to thank all the people that are interacting in this forum and making such a huge source for water fasting!
Second, let me provide you with some background information about me, I am a 21 years old male, I have suffered from depression, anxiety, and excessive sleeping. which interrupted with my college plans later, anyway after a year of confusion and hating life I got diagnosed with hypothyroidism! I can't say that starting a medication for hypo solved all my problems but it decreased it by a lot! anyway posting forward to this month I am on a dose of levothyroxine sodium tablets that seems to be working and a one that has brought all of TSH, FREE T3, and FREE T4 levels to the normal range. I am a Muslim as well so on the latest 27th of May our holy month of Ramadan began, a month in which we as Muslims fast from the early hours of the morning (around 4 to 5 am) till the sun goes down completely.
It is a usual tradition that in the fast-breaking meal a family would prepare so many delicious dishes! Which of course contained a lot of fat and calories with this lame unhealthy and (against the purpose of Ramadan) habit in place rose healthy diets specifically for Ramadan which try to get people back to the meanings of Ramadan fasting and get them to lose some fat and weight.
Anyhow! going back to my story, I decided to water fast in this month after finding of this diet recently and reading through its benefits and since my plan was to stick to a more conservative diet during this month I thought why not just quit eating at all!
As a Summary: I am a 21 male with hypothyroidism and doing the water fast during Ramadan which means I will have to dry fast at least 5 hours of the day (considering that the rest of my religious dry fasting will be while I am sleeping in the morning)
I wanted to share my experience here because I didn't find so many topics on water fasting while on hypothyroidism medication or while dry fasting half of the day as the case with me in Ramadan.
SO here is a journal to my days since the 26th of may and I will hopefully continue updating them:
Day1: I was completely OK didn't feel even the desire ot lust for some of the food my mom was preparing anyway the day moved on and when it was time to break my religious fast I drank a bottle of water and swallowed my hypo pills and that was it mostly! I drank my 3 Liters of water during the night and when at was time to start fasting for the next day I went to sleep.
-Weight: Unfouranetly no accurate measure was taken since I found out my old scale was broken anyhow I know that I was around 110 Kgs/242.5 Lbs
Day2: It was mostly the same as day 1 except I woke up earlier (I slept for 6 hours only which is a big change for me) however the rest of the day was okay I didn't feel that hungry and I was okay in terms of energy.
-Weight: same reason but it was around 108 Kgs/238 Lbs
Day3: This day was a horror movie for me, I started the day by waking up in the evening and I was completely alright although I started to feel a bit hungry what really scared me was during the night when I started to feel my heart pounding and when standing I felt unstable. I almost broke my fast because I afraid that while I am fasting my body is getting so much T4 from my medication which tells it to keep working harder also I got so hungry a few hours before my religious fast for day 4 starts!
-Weight: I finally bought a new scale! my weight during the dry fast was 106.7 Kgs/ 235.23323 Lbs and after starting drinking water my weight got up to 107.4 Kgs/ 236.8 Lbs
-Day4: To be continued :)
