Re: Hydrocortisone detox

== reply below.

"Thank you for your thoughtful and long reply. I'm touched that a stranger is taking the time to willingly share their knowledge. And I am very grateful. To learn that there are people that have understanding of this condition gives hope.

== Thank you for the kind words. There are some nice stories about lives being changed because someone was kind enough to share a tip or two. I certainly benefited from such kindness and my life is better for it. Hopefully you'll be in a position to do so after your situation stabilizes.

== I followed the case of this guy for a couple of years in a detox group. He has an unusual combination of problems but he kept looking and eventually picked up the needed tips. His adrenals were shot.

"I've never been on synthroid, but used to take selenium regularly. I'm wondering if stopping this has played a role in my changes aside from aging.

== Maybe, Se is underappreciated in our toxic world. I assume we need more than our ancestors did because of our exposure to toxins.

"I've also never done zinc regularly. Does the kind of zinc matter or the time of day taken?I'm thinking at least 25 mg is needed.

== I think it is wise for people to start with small doses and work up to typical doses. Zn is used in so many enzymes required to convert one body chemical or hormone to another. Once you start increasing the conversion, the resulting substance might run into a "bottleneck" downstream and cause symptoms. If you are not chemically sensitive this might not be a significant issue. It probably won't be difficult to cut a 50 mg tablet into 4 pieces. I don't think the form of Zn is much of an issue for most people. Some like to take it before bed so there is less of an interaction with copper.

"I can try the preg , zinc, b's and dhea and see what is on my next test after doing that for a bit.

== Remember the body will make some DHEA from pregnenolone. Learn about the male vs female dose of DHEA.

"...I was wondering what you think about the use of salt and licorice?

== My understanding is that hypoadrenal folks will tend to be low in salt. Supposedly their potassium status can be tricky.

== Licorice supposedly slows down the breakdown of cortisol. My impression is that it is safer to use it for temporary stress-dosing but I've heard of people taking small amounts for longer periods of time. When doing so, I suppose it is important to know how long it hangs around in the body--the half-life--so you can keep levels fairly stable.

"Thanks again for all your time and advice!

== Let us know how you do. I'm confident there will be bumps in the road. Your body will likely need some time to adjust.
