Re: papa Hemingway - 'happy spook devotee'

yes, the man has perplexed me. at the same time he has also enlightened me.

so

i dont think its all or nothing here. this is iron mixed with clay (see daniel in the bible).

i look at the subjects i am most familiar with. starting with dylan, its just not cut and dry. its not all or nothing. like the rest of us, he had dreams and he had heroes. he was cocky and elitist. he was perceptive and a talented wordsmith.

MM says that dylan didnt write blowin in the wind. well, that may be. how can i know?

i can also imagine that there didnt necessarily need to be a straightforward deal on it. the best conspiracies arent done at a board table over the course of several meetings. they evolve. they depend highly on human nature and opportunity and serendipity. did they leave a scrap of paper that dylan found and called his own? did he tweak it and make it his own? as long as it promoted the powers' ideas, what difference does it make?

but once the "stars are aligned" and all the right ingredients are in place then its the money people who put fuel in the rocket and light the match.

this fits with my own very low level observations. for one, its really no big deal to be able to play guitar really well. i have known great players all my life. none of them were famous. they werent in the right crowd, right town, right genre, right...???

regardless, with so many great players, what made the famous ones famous? i can do what MM has done. lets look at deep purple.

this was a style of rock that heavily promoted stadium shows and fast living and drugs, always drugs. there was a band who was much better at this type of music that featured heavy guitar and organ/synth combo, and that was bloodrock.

bloodrock was better musically and more realistic in its subject matter lyrically. they are a one hit wonder, their hit being a song called D.O.A. a very macabre and sobering song which landed between the ears of people who were not the least bit prone to consider their mortality under any circumstances.

deep purple, otoh, was about fast livin, fast drivin, sex and drugs. all you need was a case of miller high life and a ten dollar lid of mexican pot and you had a rolling party in moms 70 ford town and country station wagon.

so today, no one has heard of DOA, let alone bloodrock, and everyone has heard space truckin, highway star and my woman from tokyo (promotion of the orient is a big world gub priority).

the inferior quality music also kept the downhill slide torward punk and rap going.

so yea, i see the trend.

so how did bob handle the real person he was with the legend he became? therein lies the questions only bob and his maker can answer.

i am also very slow to make assumptions and draw conclusions as fact. as working premises, yes. as fact? no, because the lord doesnt like false accusers.

as smart as mr mathis does appear to be, he cant escape being a fallacious humain bean.

and as for dylan, im still a fan. anyone who can write "steal a little and they throw in jail, steal a lot and they make you king" isnt trying to hide our circumstances or manipulate us in any particular direction, now is he?

an artist has a personal relationship with his audience. i mistrust anyone who tries to be a factor between two people regardless of the relationship. its none of their business, really. it interferes with free will, which is the most abominable sin.
