Medical Terrorism

Although I am visually disabled by cataracts, I don't want to undergo surgery if it's done by people who deliberately want to destroy part of the human eye rather than try to save it. Two days ago, I phoned the national ophthalmology association in my locality, and begged them to fast-track cataract eye drops before I lose all my sight and it's too late. They replied: "If we don't do cataract surgery, we would go financially bankrupt so we'd be unable to treat people with other eye diseases. Is that what you want? I told you before, if you want to change the way we do things, contact your member of Parliament to lobby the government, and provide evidence that eye drops work. We won't change anything unless they tell us to". They were asking us to undergo surgery just to ensure their financial solvency. Well guess what, their financial health matters less to me than the health of my eyes. I thought it was particularly debased to use patients with other eye diseases as a 'bargaining chip' to justify their continuation of a surgical practice 'en masse' which could be averted, if they only tried. This is equivalent to medical terrorism, and I won't give in to terrorists under any conditions. Yesterday, I told the local eye doctor about this, and she almost fell off her chair. She laughed that although she doesn't do surgery, she hasn't gone bankrupt!
