I think you're right. I've also noticed when I licked my lips and immediately applied a barrier ointment like aquaphor, the corners and upper parts of my lips healed completely. Recently I started doing the same thing and again I noticed improvements in 2 weeks. I don't want to jump the gun either but I think we might have something here.
The skin cells need water and the best way to get hydrated again is to wet the lips with water or saliva and immediately apply a barrier so that the lips won't dry out. Lily "healed" or improved her lips because she hydrated them with water and applied coconut oil afterwards to keep the moisture inside and the lips from drying out.
Before someone accuse me of being another carokann, please note that I'm NOT carokann who tells everyone to go lick their lips and nibble the skin off. When someone reads "saliva" the name carokann immediately comes to mind.
