My Story on Folliculitis!
Well hello everybody,
Let me share my story with you on folliculitis. I don't really know how it developed but I know I've had it for a little over two years on the back of my scalp.
I remember it being really sensitive when touched and would sting or have that burning sensation. I went to my primary doctor and was prescribed Amoxicillin but it did nothing for me and so i never went back. Thinking it would just go away, I did nothing for it besides changing up my shampoo to Selsun Blue Medicated, which gave a nice cooling effect but didn't rid me of this condition.
During this time, I would simply try to leave it alone but as i would get the crusted follicle, i would begin to pick at them not knowing what would result from it.Because of this i developed a small hypertrophic scar (about the size of my pinky nail) which i feel is extremely embarrassing and i have grown my hair out to cover it up and also the bumps. Thankfully my hair is dark enough that it is hard for anyone to see anything, but i would like to cut it shorter how i normally would.
I've recently had a change in my life which in return, has allowed me to focus more on myself and research this condition. Since then I have learned that there is no "go-to" cure for this as everyone has had different results from using several remedies. I did a little research and began using raw unrefined coconut oil on my scalp in the morning and at night along with soaking distilled white vinegar on a rag on the affected areas for roughly 20- 30 mins a day. This seemed to do okay but I don't feel it was working all that well as my folliculitis became more tender and would sting after the vinegar, so i stopped..
Shortly after i started using turmeric as i heard others with good results.. i was using 1 teaspoon in a small glass of water 3x a day.. i felt like this was working a little, maybe it was just me, but eventually i stopped this as well, i think i became impatient.
I got sick of this and made another doctors appointment and was prescribed Doxycycline, it worked okay but it never fully got rid of it. it seems that is the case with mostly everyones use with any
Antibiotics . so i was suggested to visit a dermatologist. I made the appointment and went. she scrubbed through my hair for a few seconds and simply prescribed me doxycycline again "since i had good results." This was not only very discouraging since i felt like i was rushed in and out of the office, but I knew i didn't want to rely on
Antibiotics for a long period of time knowing the effects it can have on your body. I received the
Antibiotics but i never took them.
I've come to the point where it almost felt hopeless that i can get rid of this but i stumbled upon another members cure where he visited an acupuncturist and was free of folliculitis and it gave me hope.
Within the past 2 months or so, I decided to change up my diet significantly.. I gave up all sodas, energy drinks, alcohol/liquor, highly reduced my intake with foods that have high
Sugar contents, I try avoid any fast foods when i can and began trying to eat more healthier and I drink a lot of water! I feel this has had a good effect on my folliculitis and hasn't caused any flare ups/itchy feeling/scratching that i would normally have with my old diet. Now i am not cured but i feel a lot better. I've lost close to maybe 15-20 lbs, which is great, seeing that i am overweight some. I've even gotten compliments from people who have noticed my weight loss which is a good confidence booster, especially when this condition can bring you down.
As i mentioned, i saw another users cure (Gmac168) and became curious about acupuncture and oriental medicine. I spoke briefly with a local Doctor of Oriental Medicine about my condition and she felt that she could help with this since she has also helped other with skin conditions. So on 10/20/16 I booked an appointment with her and had my first acupuncture session. during this session she also did a pulse reading, took a small sample of blood and checked the color of my tongue. now i cant remember 100% about what was said about each one but she stated my body was out of balance, that i have a lot of heat and dampness trapped and that the acupuncture can help but i also needed to have some sort of detox to clean out my system. so after my first session, she recommended i get my internal system situated first, receive acupuncture on each visit there after but also begin the turmeric again but on a higher dosage (3 tablespoons per day) and also one cup of warm water with 1/2 squeezed lemon every morning to help with digestive issues. Now it's too early to detect any major improvement but i can say i feel better.
10/25/16
I had my second appointment, had acupuncture.. but this time was also recommended to begin a paste made with Goldenseal/Turmeric and apply it to my scalp. now i haven't began this yet simply because i haven't found golden seal but i can keep all of ypu updated as i go! I'm hoping this works out for me and can help all of you as well...
