Applying Iodine 2 x daily over the scar is supposed to create a scab after a week or two, and after continuing the Iodine over the scab in about a month+ the scab begins to itch and then falls off leaving fresh new skin that was not discolored in my case.

The new skin was in fact a lighter color having never been sun-tanned.
