‘Shocking’ drug list includes governors, congressman: DOJ

A list of politicians accused of coddling drug syndicates that will be revealed by President Rodrigo Duterte includes governors and a congressman, a cabinet official said Saturday.

Duterte will name the government officials to stop their illegal activities and encourage witnesses against them to come forward, Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre told DZMM.

“Ito pong narco-politics na sinasabi, talagang napakarami. Magugulat ka sa taas at laki ng mga politikong involved. Umaabot yan hindi lang mayor hanggang governor. May congressman po. [Many are involved in narco-politics. It’s shocking that it involves big politicians in high positions. It does not stop with the mayor. It goes up to the governor, even a congressman],” he said.

“Madaming pulitiko na involved sa drugs to finance their election and re-election campaign. [Many politicians are involved in drugs to finance their election and re-election campaign],” he said.

Aguirre refused to elaborate on the list, saying he did not want to preempt the President.

Duterte has so far named Albuera Leyte town Mayor Rolando Espinosa and his son, Kerwin, in the illegal drugs trade. Espinosa has surrendered while the son is at large.

Duterte said Friday he would reveal more names of politicians on his drug list, including mayors and a congressman.
