Endometrial ablation warning
Hi, just wanted to post my experience in case it may help someone. I had an endometrial ablation 8 years ago to (supposedly) stop cramping from my monthly period. I was 35 at the time. I did not have heavy bleeding, which is normally why a doctor would recommend endometrial ablation. In hindsight it was the worst decision of my life. Not only did it not stop the cramping, which at worst before the surgery was two days out of the month during my period. Now I have at least two WEEKS out of the month, sometimes more, that I have severe cramping with pain shooting down my leg. Pain pills don't relieve it much at all. Doctors don't know why and can only recommend a hysterectomy, which I do not want. I also gained weight within 6 months after the surgery and I never had a problem with my weight. It is very difficult for me to lose weight now and just a year before the surgery I lost 20
pounds with no struggle. The only relief from cramping came for me when I bled again (last year). I then had 4 months of no pain, until the lining presumably grew back. An ultrasound confirmed that it grew back. I now believe that scar tissue from the surgery is making it difficult for the lining to release from the uterus, so it keeps cramping. The only relief I've had is from doing castor oil packs, which I believe are responsible for allowing the lining to come out, relieving the cramping temporarily. But, I have not been able to get the lining out for a second time. I will be applying castor oil packs overnight to see if I can get the lining out again. Anyway, if you are considering this surgery, you may want to take into consideration what has happened to me and other women who have post endometrial ablation syndrome. My doctor admitted that roughly 15% of patients get the syndrome, which is very painful and can only be relieved by a hysterectomy. Castor oil packs may help your problem and also acupuncture. Vaginal steaming has also given me some relief from the cramping.
