If a tooth is dead, you should get rid of it. As for implants, they can also be a permanent source of infection. Natural teeth aren't attached directly to the bone, they are attached by a membrane of ligaments, this membrane also acts as a bacterial seal for the bone. Implants don't have this, so potentially allow bacteria from the mouth to travel deep into the bone.
