2ND Hiatus Hernia

Hi all, I'm new to this site and looking for some advice.

Approx. 20 years ago I had an operation to repair a hiatus hernia. All went well and after recovery I enjoyed the following 20 ish years without any form of heartburn or reflux, never felt sick or been sick. I am 52 now.

That is until 3 years back I had a hip replacement and following the operation I was very sick about 2 or 3 times. Last year I slowly started getting symptoms of heartburn, acid reflux and that sickly feeling after eating again, I've now got a tickly cough which I've had since November last year. The doctor does not seam too concerned and just gave me some tablets to take.

Is it possible after all these years the hernia could have returned? If so is it important to have it repaired again or leave it, I've heard stories of the operation not being as easy as the first and that surgeons would rather just give you medication instead.

Thanks in advice for all your help on this.
