Accidental repeated iodine megadosing. Now what?

Hello Iodine pros,

The short version of my story is that my health has been a mess since I got jaundice (and very high liver enzymes) from a prescription anti fungal (terbinafine/Lamisil) to treat very superficial toenail fungus 2.5 years ago. This drug is also known for inducing autoimmune disease as a side effect. In summary, I was an idiot, and now I know better.

Anyway, I suffered through a year and a half of bizarre physical and mental symptoms which were chalked up to depression, anxiety, or aging (I wrote them out and the list is really, really long, can share later if needed), I suspected a deficiency of acetylcholine, which I raised with alpha-GPC and some other supplements. This helped greatly with most of the mental symptoms but not all of the physical ones, such as always cold fingers and toes (and, ahem, male bits), low body temp, loss of physical endurance, muscle aches, thinning body and head hair, dry eyes, etc.

Thyroid disease runs strongly along my mother's side of the family, and thus I started to suspect a thyroid issue (particularly since I'd had what in retrospect was probably a goiter near when all this started, and virtually all other symptoms were consistent with that, including ACh deficiency, actually). So I started supplementing with Lugol's-like solution. However, the base was homemade SSKI , so it ended up 46% KI and 8% I2 by weight.

I have been taking selenium as selenomethionine at 400 mcg/day as well as most of the other supplements regarded as cofactors (vitamin C I do not usually use as it consistently and repeatably put me in a very dark mood after a few days; however I have been taking 15 - 40 g daily for the past week since being on Iodine and, interestingly, no adverse mood effects this time) for the past year already so I ramped up the dose rapidly to 50 mg/day and started to get a "flare up" of hypothyroid type symptoms like cold extremities and fatigue as well as vague cold or flu-like symptoms.

I decided to up my dosage to get any sort of "detox" or whatever the heck it is over with faster. But based on my reading, it seemed like elemental Iodine (I2) can potentially act as an oxidative agent at higher doses, plus it has a more direct antiseptic effect and I didn't want to kill off all my gut bugs, so I chose to use KI alone. However, I had loaned the mg scale and small spoons to measure these things to a friend, so I eyeballed the dose with a larger set of spoons and went to bed.

The first night I woke up freezing cold, throat too sore to swallow, hacking darkly colored phlegm from my lungs and oozing it from my nose. (Hahaha sorry for the graphic description...) I finally fell back to sleep and felt somewhat better in the morning. I decided to cut the dose in half the next night and again woke up though with less severe symptoms. For the next several days I stuck with that dose and progressively have experienced some clearing up of the phlegm as well as, for the first time in 2 years, almost totally clear sinuses (A few coworkers and I got sick after a work trip 2 years ago and since then I have had continuous popping/crackling in my eustachian tubes. I finally got a sinus scan done which showed completely clogged frontal sinuses. Nothing has helped before; I had terrible sinus headaches for 2 days and now they are gone along with 95% of the pops and crackles in my ears).

So I got my scale back and measured the dose I was taking. The first night I took 1.6 g of KI, that is, 1200 mg of Iodide or 8000 x the RDA, and then for the past 6 days I've been taking 800 mg KI / 600 mg iodide. Oops.

This is pretty far beyond anybody's protocol; it is much more like an old-school therapeutic dose. I've not yet noticed any major side effects aside from the ones mentioned: no hypo- or hyperthyroid symptoms, no rashes, no hair falling out; maybe at worst some increased salivation and a bit of Acne on the chest and back.

I feel like I'm in uncharted waters here; the information on such large doses is in really old medical documents that aren't easily available online. My plan is to continue with 800 mg KI daily until the mucus totally clears up, and then drop back to something like 100-200 mg daily. But I have no idea if I'm setting myself up for some kind of catastrophe. I just switched jobs and my new health insurance hasn't kicked in yet, so I will try to get a complete thyroid panel including antibodies ASAP.

If anyone has any additional advice or insight I would of course appreciate it; thank you for taking the time to read this very long post, even if you don't have anything to add.

Edit: My diet is, in its entirety:
Daily: leafy greens, berries, 1 - 2 other fruits a day, onions and garlic, cucumbers, carrots, seafood or chicken, eggs, lentils, brazil nuts, cold processed whey protein, coconut oil, olive oil, butter, FCLO, rooibos tea, spices (ginger, cayenne, cumin, black pepper, a little turmeric, plus occasional others).
Weekly: 2-3 servings cooked or fermented cruciferous vegetables, few oz macadamia nuts, several chicken livers, 2-3 avocados, 1-2 servings sorghum or white rice, 1-2 cups of coffee, 1-2 cups white tea, 1-2 bottles kombucha, dark chocolate, hummus.
Monthly: 0-3 servings each of organic greek yogurt, raw or buffalo milk cheese, potatoes / sweet potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, red meat (buffalo or cow heart / liver, mostly).
