The point is to help us help you. We can't really figure out what it is if it's half-embedded in a turd. You'd be amazed the difference a little rubbing alcohol will make. If it's a worm or fluke it will clean right up and stay firm and kind of rubbery, but if it's mucous or undigested food the alcohol will break it down and there won't be much left to photograph. This has nothing to do with being grossed out; just MUCH easier to see what you're dealing with if it's clean. Also helps to place a small item, such as a coin next to it for size comparison. Tweet
