My cure for Seborrheic Dermatitis - want to help others
My skin was somewhat normal throughout middle school and high school aside from minimal
Acne issues. I never really developed a good skin care routine. I would shave with a straight razor, shower dry off and start my day. This worked well for roughly 20 years. After turning 20, I began to develop dry red patches on my face (t-section) and scaple.. and related it to stress from college. The main areas were my eyebrows and mustache area. I continued to work in a kitchen throughout college and it worsened over the years. My life consisted of work, school, not eating healthy, beer and marijuana.
I don't like letting things like this defeat me so I set out to solve the issue...
For starters, my face was extremely oily by the end of everyday (even when I was not working in the kitchen)..
A good start to battle that is oil strips. I pat my face down a couple of times a day so the oil isn't just sitting on my face all day.
I began using an electric razor as oppose to a straight razor and I shave my face at least once, sometimes twice a day. It takes a while to learn to use it with sensitive skin, but it works best when I glide it over the skin not pressing down very hard. Also, I trim my eyebrows as short as possible.
I developed a better skin care routine. Washing my face with oatmeal soap/zinc soap at night time (every other night). The other time I just use warm water then cold water pat dry, and use an oil free lotion.
I also use zinc shampoo every couple of days.
If I stop shaving for a couple of days or get out of this routine... I CAN TELL. Moisturize in the winter, not as much in the summer.
Also, I began trying to battle this internally as well. My diet was rough being as I worked in a kitchen- I would eat anything I could get my hands on. The main things that I have to stay away from are the nightshade veggies- mainly bellpeppers/tomatoes.
I drink about 6-7 bottles of water a day and beer on the weekends, no sodas at all.
No more processed foods, sugars, fast foods..
My dinner meals are salmon/flounder/chicken/lean pork chops, sweet potates or brown rice, fresh vegetables. I may cheat a little on the weekends but during the week... THAT IS ALL I EAT FOR DINNER! one of those things..
:unch- salads (spring mix or spinach) or whole grain sandwiches (no wheat)
Breakfast - fiber bars/granolas/nut bars
If I'm craving something sweet then I'll eat vanilla greek yogurt with oats or dark chocolate.
I take vitamins, caprlyic acid and probiotics every day.
This almost cured my
Seborrheic Dermatitis . I still get a small patch every now and then but I've had it under control for 6 months. I've been on this regimen for over a year.
Caprlyic acid is important at night before bed because it balances the PH levels in your gut. Probiotics are great, my digestion is great these days. Water is very important.
I'm not going to say that I don't have flare ups at all because I've had 2 in the past 3 months that stand out to me. I didn't realize the inflammatory properties of bellpeppers and had 2 stuffed bell peppers, rough break out..
The other was last weekend. I was celebrating at 3 different Christmas parties: drank an 18 pack over the course of 3 days and had a small break out around mid morning on Monday but it wasn't anything too serious.
If I have something going on that I want my face to be clear for, a get together, church (prayed a lot about this and it helped too) or whatever-- If I follow this regimen then my face will be clear for the weekend.
Elidel works great for temporary relief in the morning, and hydrocortisone in evening. I don't go overboard with the creams but I have realized that it heals the dry places a lot faster if used..
Please feel free to contact me at anytime if you have any questions.
I went from a red t zone and scalp to a clear complexion and I feel like I've had it under control for 6-8 months.
Thanks
