Rough Tongue and Mouth Problem

I'm not sure where to start on Cure Zone so I thought I'd start here since there seems to be some good advice in this forum.

I have a problem inside my mouth. It started with my tongue being rough on top and a week or two later the inside of my mouth started feeling funny. I know this may seem silly, but the best way to describe how the inside of my lips feel is like rubber. It's like when I was a kid and I'd lick a balloon and put it in my mouth. After my tongue wipes away the saliva, my tongue skips along the skin like when you rub a balloon with your tongue (or your hand) and it skips along he surface.

During the time I've had this (7 weeks), there has been no change in my diet or lifestyle. I have not had any open sores in my mouth but I do have chapped lips, especially in the corners of my mouth. There has not been any changes in color or coating on my tongue, except the inside of my lips look a little deeper red than usual. Also, my sense of taste is way off. My wife is a good cook and her good cooking (as well as drinks) just don't taste the same.

At first my GP said it was a virus and would go away in 4 weeks after it ran it's course. After 5 weeks he said I should see a dermatologist. The dermatologist said, "I don't know why he sent you to me. Maybe you should see an ENT." (sigh) He also said it might be something systemic because of the change in my taste. At this point I'm thinking that I need to do something systematic and not keep going to MD specialists. I'm now starting my 8th week and it's getting to be annoying. It could also be a symptom of a more serious problem (immune system?) so I don't want to ignore it.

Any suggestions as to what I have? I'm having a hard time searching the net and finding something with my symptoms.

Thanks.
