Mirena: what to expect after removal
Not much was told to me by my gyn of what I could expect after Mirena was removed. I have been told MANY times that is causes weight gain, once started, and is near perfect at preventing pregnancy, which I can vouch for both. I had one and a half stents of Mirena, with only the complaint of ridiculous weight gain, regardless of activity unless to the point of exhaustion all day every day, lack of regular meals and all that to halt the weight from moving further up the scale.
I did one and a half stents of Mirena with no medically adverse reactions. I was told that some itching in my lower regions was a UTI, when really I just needed to shave more often. I have a history of GiV (gastrointestinal viruses) since I was first diagnosed at age 16. I have a fair Idea of my family medical history and because I would rather spend my energy focusing on my family than be worried all the time if I was pregnant again was a good candidate for it.
After the first 5 years, I had it removed and replaced the same day to then continue my use of Mirena as a contraceptive. I will say that I had the first one placed with my OB/GYN in AZ, and the replacement was done in OK with a different GYN. The replacement was absolutely painful upon inserting and my GYN stated that my cervix was closed and refused to open. Since the replacement a lot of issues started. With the first placement, no problems what so ever, except my figure became plus size, and I have a family history of Type 2 diabetes and ever since my mom was diagnosed have been pretrified of major weight gain, to the point of starving myself so to maintain a level weight of 145-155 (water weight gain during monthly cycle).
After my pregnancy, Mirena was my first choice and it went in well, about 3 weeks after the birth of my son. No pain, no irritation... No mood change, no lack of intimacy drive... My energy was good, because of the consistency of the horomones it gives off I was able to become more calm with way less rage. Good stuff.
Since the replacement though issues I hadn't dealt with since I was 16 started to appear: just an overall change in me... My physical discomfort due to my GiV, horrible bloating that made me think I may have become pregnant, and then after 3 weeks it would go away, but two months later it would be back.
Depression I hadn't been treated for since I turned 18 and my inability to focus on simple things going on around me became so overwhelming I sought help with behavioral health.
Mood issues and lack of focus resolved, the odd pretend-prego-bloat was still a battle every 3 months. Though my activity levels hadn't changed, but actually increased I started to put on a lot of weight over the next 2 years and finally got fed up and requested a change in contraception.
The lowest allowable pill was offered and accepted. Well once I get my cycle set, then there is no need for birth control as nothing happens 3 days before my cycle, nothing during and nothing 3 days after. No problem.
Well of course with the pill or with out it I get to relive painful cysts that burst around my ovaries indicating from which ovary the egg is coming from. Neat huh? As well as blood in my stool...wahoo!! ( as she twirls her finger in the air as though an invisible noise maker is spinning around the tip of her index finger, pure sarcasm eplodes from every angle of her face).
Anyway, since I have had consistent Mirena birth control over the last 7-8 years, I am wondering if there is a recovery period, such as it takes a women's body 3 years to completely recover from a single pregnancy. You know, to get back to how she was at the time prior to the pregnancy.
