My husband and I took our 13 month old to the ER last night, thinking he had a hernia in his groin because of the large swelling on the right side of his scrotum that seemingly appeared out of nowhere. We had not noticed any sort of swelling at any diaper changes before last night's bed time diaper change. We automatically thought hernia, but that's not what it ended up being. After a long wait and ultrasound and ct scan they determined it was a spermatic hydrocele and gave us a prescription for children's motrin and told us that there was no usual treatment for them, that they simply left them alone unless they became painful or troublesome at some point down the road.
I'm trying to find out more information about spermatic hydroceles and just wondering if there is anything that we could do to help it along with resolving itself. I don't intend to fill that prescription since I cannot imagine why we need it since he does not act like it is causing him any sort of pain. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! :)
