Re: Advise from an Indian Yoga instructor/Ayurvedic doctor on Salt Water Flush
Hello, I recognize the techniques explained but would like to add more information. The series of postures is called shankaprakshalana. It is the yogic version of saltwater flush. But the proper process is to drink 2 cups of the salt water mixture followed by the 5 asanas, or postures, 3x for a total of 6 cups of water, 48oz.
A quick search on YouTube or Google will guide you through the postures. But the correct order should be done as each specific posture has a directed action to move the water through your system. All the twisting in different postures moves the water through specific parts of the intestines.
I see you've covered most of the postures but the first one should be tadasana, with hands interlaced above the head, stretch upwards lifting yourself into your toes. Each posture should be done 6-8 times.
The last two postures should be done in reverse order to what you have stated: it should be cobra and then crow, as cobra more of a twisting effect on a higher portion of he intestines and crow works with a lower portion. All the poses move the water from the top all the way to the bottom and out in order.
Of course, doing the full cleanse may be a lot of trouble if you are doing it daily, so it can be modified to work with the salt water flush. Just proceed with the 32oz of salt water and then do the excercises to assist the passage of water through the body if you have trouble passing regularly.
I hope this information will be helpful for all you cleansing yogis c:
