Congressman Busted for Cocaine; Voted for Drug Testing Food Stamp Recipients

By now most know of the incredible hypocrisy among many congressional and senate members, both state and federal. But this one is a true shiner. Southwest Florida republican Rep. Trey Radel is facing misdemeanor charges of cocaine possession.

He’s playing the remorseful sympathy card, of course. It’s the successful choice for swaying public opinion. He said he struggles “with the disease of alcoholism, and this led to an extremely irresponsible choice. As the father of a young son and a husband to a loving wife, I need to get help so I can be a better man for both of them.” So he snorts cocaine to snap out of his alcohol stupor?

He is among the many who vote for bills without reading them, without hearing vocal arguments in the House of Representatives or Senate. Ever observe the lack of attendees during these arguments on C-SPAN? I guess they show up for the TV shoot. Hardly anyone is there to listen. He was a no-show for four votes so far this September 2015.

But he was among those who voted to allow states to conduct drug testing on those who collect food stamps. Some who opposed reportedly remarked that some of their Congressional colleagues should pee in cups for drug testing also.

In June, Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) made that very suggestion: “Why don’t we drug test all the members of Congress here. “Force everybody to go urinate in a cup or see whether or not anybody is on drugs? Maybe that will explain why some of these amendments are coming up or why some of the votes are turning out the way they are.”

There have been many undercover reports of late night parties in Washington where several “lawmakers” and Administration officials carry on with late night parties. Many involve cocaine access and excess and even pedophilia with mostly young male sex-slaves.

Not exactly former TV series “West End” prime time Washington, DC is it. More like the current “House of Cards”, but worse.

The More Common Hypocrisy of Government Officials

Okay, that sort of thing isn’t true with most members of congress and federal and state administrations. But here are some examples of the hypocrisy that does exist uniformly. Circa 2010, Center for Responsive Politics director Shiela Krumholz stated:

Few federal lawmakers must grapple with the financial ills [from] unemployment, loss of housing, wiped out savings that have befallen millions of Americans. Congressional representatives on balance rank among the wealthiest of wealthy Americans and boast financial portfolios that are all but unattainable for most of their constituents. (Emphasis added)

Here’s the rub: Some who were not already millionaires became millionaires after some congressional tenure, while those who were already millionaires expand their net worth considerably. Making connections through lobbyists and getting inside tips seem to be part of the privileges of “public service”. Let’s throw in revolving doors into lofty corporate positions as well.

Obamacare legislation was interesting. That’s when democratic Rep. Nancy Pelosi, who was then Speaker of the House, told everyone they would find out what’s in the bill when it’s passed. Interesting way to vote on legislation – with ignorance of the content’s details.

So it was passed after lots of deal making, I suppose, with the caveat that the lawmakers were exempt from using Obamacare or any of the penalties used to enforce its use.

House and Senate members are allowed to use the finest military hospitals in the Washington, DC area, and they and their families have access to private sick care insurance that’s paid mostly by the government, i.e. taxpayers.

People who can’t afford sick care insurance or have to pay for Obamacare are effectively contributing toward millionaire congressional members’ insurance premiums.

Placing the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) treaty on fast track approval meant most senators and representatives were privy to snatches and summaries of the text but not allowed to reveal contents of the bill’s text. Democracy at it’s best, keep constituents in the dark and vote for what favors their corporate masters, their actual constituents.

It appears this deceitful caper has been achieved to guarantee TPP passage, putting us under even worse international corporate rule, despite massive petitions to individual representatives and senators. (Source below, lastminutesurvival)

While social welfare programs’ funding is cut back and social security is threatened, almost everyone who has a government position is guaranteed a nice pension, often better than social security, usually after 20 years of “service”.

Elected officials fare even better. Former presidents get six digit pensions. All of these pensions are perks paid by government funds. (Source below, money.cnn)

It’s so bad that even Colorado republican Rep. Mike Coffman admitted, “It makes no sense for Congress to continue to reward itself, using taxpayer dollars. We need to end this perk.” Not sure if he meant after he gets his or what, but at least he said it.

Let’s cut the delusion and comforting illusions: We are serfs in a plutocracy  that rules the corporatocracy served by government vassals that make sure the peasants accept whatever they demand and do and behave or else. So make sure you vote (sarcasm).
