Adrenal fatigue? Or something else? Lab results included.
Hi everyone,
I'm so very lost at this point as I read so much conflicting information out there and my Dr thinks I am utterly crazy at this point and won't help. For about a decade I've had symptoms of extreme fatigue, anxiety, occasional depression, sleep problems, digestive problems, joint pains, and I could go on and on. 3 years ago, I had a child and everything got worse - irritability, mood swings, and everything else from over the years was just intensified. It's gotten worse over the past three years with many more symptoms like horrible allergies and hives (I've always gotten hives but it's gotten so much worse), extremely jittery, heart palpatations, I feel light headed a lot like I'm going to pass out, nausea after meals, racing heart when I lay down, very heavy irregular periods and after years of constipation I have now had diarrhea daily for 6 months. My panic attacks are really bad and Ive had to go to the er a couple times for vertigo and panic attacks. I also get really bad low blood sigar and have to eat snacks in the middle of the night. Until about 2 months ago, I woke up as tired as if I hadnt slept, and stayed that way all day. Then I suddenly started popping awake anytime between 4:30 and 6am and then 30 minutes to an hour later I crash and stay exhausted for the rest of the day. I can barely function anymore. I have always been really bad about stress management and get overwhelmed very easily, and I went through about 5 years of extreme stress in the last decade that I'm still surprised I made it through alive.
I went to my Dr in May who said all my lab work was normal (except for low vitamin d) and that I should take an antidepressant. I didn't want to so she just sort of shrugged and said it was probably from my hormones from having a kid (3 years ago!).
My dad recommended to have my thyroid checked which came back normal:
My TSH in May was 2.38 range .45-4.5
The rest of these were from August:
Free T4 1.2 range 0.8- 1.8
Free T3 3.6 range 2.3-4.2
Reverse T3 22 range 8-25
Thyroglobulin antibodies <1 range < or =1
Peroxidase antibodies <1 range <9
A family friend then suggested adrenal insufficiency but my potassium and sodium were in normal range as well, so they said it couldn't be that. That same friend then said maybe adrenal fatigue (which my chiropractor also suggested ) so I ordered a saliva test for a hormone panel and something seems off but my Dr says adrenal fatigue is not real and that the supplements they suggest for it could hurt me. And she said the saliva test was not accurate.
Here are my results from last week:
-Estradiol (Saliva) 0.7 L pg/mL 1.3-3.3 Premenopausal (Luteal)
-Progesterone (Saliva) 124 pg/mL 75-270 Premenopausal (Luteal)
-Ratio: Pg/E2 (Saliva) 177 Optimal: 100-500 when E2 1.3-3.3 pg/mL
-Testosterone (Saliva) 26 pg/mL 16-55 (Age Dependent)
-DHEAS (Saliva) 3.5 ng/mL 2-23 (Age Dependent)
-Cortisol (Saliva) 10.2 H ng/mL 3.7-9.5 (morning)
-Cortisol (Saliva) 0.7 L ng/mL 1.2-3.0 (noon)
-Cortisol (Saliva) 0.8 ng/mL 0.6-1.9 (evening)
-Cortisol (Saliva) 0.4 ng/mL 0.4-1.0 (night)
The explanation that came with it says my DHEA is low for my age (age 30), my estradiol is low, morning cortisol is high (which would explain why the last 2 months I wake up so early), my noon is low, and the evening and night are low normal.
Does anyone have any suggestions or advice on what could be going on?? Or what type of Dr to see? All the naturopaths in my area have pretty bad reputations for just trying to peddle their expensive supplements and as I said, my gp thinks I'm insane. But I'm only 30 and I feel horrible and I can't keep living like this. I can't even do my normal daily tasks and I'm a wife, and a mother of a toddler who I feel is suffering because of this. My house is also suffering because I can only clean for a minute or two before having to sit down and take a break.
Thank you such for taking the time to read this.
