Uny-How long did it take for you to taper Prozac.. and how?

Hey Uny... I'm wondering how exactly you tapered off of Prozac, what dosage you were on, etc.

I read a post saying:
"How much to cut at one time: My dosage before I stopped was 40mg Prozac daily, and almost always I had 40 mg pills (they didn't want to give me 20mg pills for some reason) and that made things a bit more difficult. But since Prozac (like Zoloft) has a very long half-life (and I was NEVER what a doctor would call a "compliant patient", I already knew I could miss a day - or even two- before I noticed any major effect, I just had to 'double up' if I started feeling depressed). So, I started by skipping one day a week completely, and that was a breeze. Then I skipped two days a week, and I didn't feel comfortable with that during the second week (which may have been a throwback to the first week, since the halflife is so long). Anyway, what I ended up doing after a few weeks of playing around, was this - never take any on Sunday, and one week take it for six days, and the next for five days. Then I went to 5 & 4, then 4 & 3, and so on. Somewhere in there I just totally lost track of what I was doing, and only took one when I could really tell it was bothering me. And I'd find myself going for 4 days without, then 5, then one day I looked at the bottle and the calender and realized I hadn't had any for two weeks! WOOHOO!!!"

So you stopped at 40mg of Prozac? or your dose when you began tapering was 40mg? Either way, now that I'm on 4mg of Valium and nearing the finish line with that taper... I was wondering how I'd go about this one.

I take three 10mg Prozac capsules a day. My thinking would be to miss one 10mg capsule on Sunday for a week... and then Sunday, Wednesday the next week... etc. etc... and the taper would end up being something like 5 months.

Either that, or buy gelatin capsules to empty the powder into and weigh on scale.

Any advice? I've yet to really see anything on how to withdraw from Prozac... the HC and Valium is straightforward... the Prozac with the capsules not as much.
