Where I buy my Yemeni Sidr Honey
So I got a PM inquiring about where to buy real Sidr honey in the US, and the truth is that's few and far between. It's crazy. And now FAKE Sidr is being sold and how would those unfamiliar with this honey know any better???
I had a connect in Yemen who sent it to me every year, but because of the war, and the fact that this person moved back to the US three years ago, I thought all hope was lost.
In desperation, I ordered some from some random company online--big mistake! It didn't even taste like honey at all. I think it.was some kind of syrup. And I'm still waiting for my refund!
When a friend went to Saudi Arabia for Ramadan, I paid them to bring me as much as they could from the Sidr honey store in Madinah. I'd been there some years back, and it's where I was introduced to Yemeni Sidr Honey and I'd been getting it sent to me from my friends who lived in San'aa Yemen ever since.
So to say that I'm a Sidr honey aficionado of sorts would be a more than accurate assertion. I love the stuff, but because I could only get it once a year I used it sparingly. Again, real Sidr is like nothing you have ever tasted--no other honey compares in my opinion. So imagine my surprise when I got a post on FB from my friends at Sahabi Sweets last June advertising Sidr. And not some off brand Sidr, but a company whose name I recognized from my travels overseas-Mujeza! Yaaaaay!
I immediately purchased 3 bottles of the Do'ani. When I opened the bottle and took a whiff and smelled that distinct aroma that only raw honey from the Lote trees of the Middle East possesses, i was elated. I told every and anyone to buy as much as they could! Anyone who tastes Sidr gets hooked, and i believe they sold out very quickly.
I tried to order some this Ramadan to give out as gifts, but they were out of the Do'ani so I got the Mt. Sidr. They are now completely out of stock and Mrs. Sahabi (lol) told me that their shipment from Saudi Arabia, which was supposed to be available mid-July is still in customs.
So that's my Sidr story and where I get the goods from. Sidr honey is expensive, and now that Yemen is embroiled in war, prices will probably be going up :(. If I tell you how much I used to pay when I got it directly from Yemen, those of you who know how much this honey costs now would gasp. Super cheap compared to prices I've seen recently.
Mujeza is a large established company, with distribution worldwide, and has been in the honey biz for years. And NO i don't represent their organization, but it's a brand I trust, and I order it from Sahabi, whom I also trust. There's also a brand i used to get in the UAE but it's not sold here. I have very little Sidr reserves, but I won't take chances and order from anywhere else. Of course now that Sidr is growing in popularity every Tom, Dick and Harry is going to be claiming to have the best, but if it's REAL Sidr it is harvested with centuries old extraction traditions, if its real Yemeni Sidr honey it comes from various regions in the country, so PLEASE ignore the talk about the best sidr honey money can buy, because if it's authentic REAL SIDR it speaks for itself....
And like the article about the bootleg sidr honey, I posted the other day, companies from PAKISTAN AND TURKEY (and I'm sure elsewhere) are selling FAKE and adulterated Sidr now, so those of you unfamiliar with the real thing should use caution!
