Yeast came back 4 days after stopping boric acid, please tell me your experience with boric acid
Hello all. I’ve been dealing with a yeast infection for 3.5 mos (it has never completely stopped during that time), and have been doing all kinds of things and have read so many sites on the Internet, but am starting to get worried because it’s looking like if I stop boric acid treatment, it comes back almost immediately.
I will get into that in a minute, but here is some background:
Was on
Antibiotics for 3 weeks, this caused a yeast infection about 3.5 mos ago. I never had one before this in my life.
I was unable to deal with the yeast infection for a while, it may have gone on for about 3 weeks or so without any treatment, it was pretty bad at that time and gross. (At that time, I also had what appeared to be oral thrush, although that mostly seems to be gone now, although I do still see a slight whiteness of my tongue in the mornings, but it is nowhere near the level it was in the beginning. I have never actually been to the doctor for this due to limited funds, but it seems mostly gone.)
I stopped using all soaps, etc. in the vaginal area.
If I wash down there with a washcloth, I throw it away in order not to re-contaminate that or other body parts with yeast or bacteria in case it is not killed by the washing machine.
I wash my 100% cotton underwear in a separate load from the other clothes, and wash them with hot water, laundry soap, and non-dye, non-fragrance bleach every time, in hopes of eliminating the yeast (they say that yeast is not killed in laundry unless your water is a really high temperature that is usually not found in washers. Bleach is known to kill yeast). The rest of the clothes I just wash in hot water and laundry soap since I can't bleach them.
Within 1 week after I got the yeast infection, I switched to the candida diet (during the untreated time). I stopped eating all the foods I like, I completely cut out all dairy, refined sugar, fruit, refined grains, gluten, fermented products, high-starch vegetables, yeast, and I completely stopped drinking alcohol. I have cut out nightshade vegetables for the most part as well. (Basically the only thing left was vegetables, eggs, and other protein sources.) I was only eating maybe 20 grams of gluten-free carbs per day for a while (from vegetables), until my mood crashed and I started to figure out that I cannot do this extreme low carb thing, regardless of whether the candida diet says to do it or not… it has a really bad effect on my mental state and I can’t function by doing that, my life was being destroyed by doing that so I went back up to about 100 grams of carbs (from brown rice only) a day, so I can stay out of that problem and also stay out of ketosis. This ended up being more viable, and prevented the complete mood crash problem. So I have been on this type of diet for 3.5 months, and have lost a lot of weight due to it (45 lbs).
In terms of natural supplements, I was taking Chinese herbs that help with yeast infections during one period, and during another period various antifungals like garlic and coconut oil and turmeric and oregano and pau d’arco.
Now I am not taking any particular antifungals other than stuff that’s in my food like oregano, onions, garlic, ginger, and turmeric.
I can’t eat yogurt at all because I’m lactose-intolerant, my body doesn’t tolerate dairy. But I am taking non-dairy probiotics, and plan to insert probiotics up there once I go off of the boric acid to rebuild the vaginal flora. I just started taking digestive enzymes as well, maybe that will help something. I am leery of taking too many antifungals though, because supposedly the yeast gets “used to it” and they don’t work as well.
I stopped taking the
Antibiotics when I discovered the yeast infection.
I received a prescription for terconazole (7 days) suppositories, but that did not seem viable because it was too expensive, even if that was the solution it would cost $150 to do that for 2 weeks including a 2nd dr’s visit to get another prescription, and many people say it takes 2 weeks for that to work, so I did not go down that road because I can’t afford it.
When I started treating the yeast infection, I took diflucan once, it didn’t work, although they say 1 pill is supposed to cure it. There was very little effect. A different time, I took 2 diflucan pills 3-4 days apart combined with 2 weeks of miconozole. This almost cured it… there was a definite improvement and no discharge. I thought it was cured for about 10 days until it came back (except there was still a slightly odd smell, I wasn’t convinced it was cured during that time). It didn’t seem like diflucan did much of anything.
So after the miconozole failed after 10 days of thinking it “maybe”? might be cured, I decided to go the route of boric acid, because the Internet says this cures almost all yeast infections.
pH: vaginal healthy pH is supposed to be 3.5-4.8 I think, pH of boric acid is 3.5-6. pH of coconut oil is 7.3.
So I mixed ½ coconut oil and ½ boric acid, and was basically putting 2 size 0 capsules of this mixture in the morning, and again at night. At first I did not have applicators, and I don’t think it was going in high enough, this went on for the first week. Then I was using tampon applicators, which still didn’t seem high enough… and I bought some miconozole and used the long applicators from that (not the cream) for the boric acid suppositories. So basically I did this for 2 weeks, about half of that time did not have proper applicators. And the sites I found said you can do it for up to a month (then go to 2x a week for a month for maintenance). So I was going to continue it, but I ran out of money and the boric acid pills and had to wait 4 days before I could buy the stuff to make more. The 4 days happened to be right before my period/as my period was starting, and by the 4th day, there was a really awful smell I never smelled before coming out of there, I don’t know how to describe it but definitely something gross is going on there. Boric acid is supposed to cure this, also coconut oil is an antifungal, so this should be working, especially since I have already made so many sacrifices in stopping eating all the food I like for months, stopping drinking, and spending so much money on antifungals and so much time making these suppositories and researching this stuff, and I don’t even know how much money I have spent trying to cure this, not to mention the mental energy spent.
I am concerned that after stopping boric acid for only 4 days, a really bad smell was going on? Last night I put in the first boric acid after the 4 day break, and the smell is less today, but there was a long string of discharge. But still, this is concerning. I guess I can keep going on the boric acid for another 2 weeks and hope for the best? I don’t know what else to do really. I can’t cut out any more carbs, that is not an option because my brain doesn’t work if I do that, I can’t function as a human being on less than 80 grams of carbs or so. And I can’t cut out beans… I have to eat beans and rice because I don’t have money to buy more expensive food. Basically I’m living off of beans, rice, vegetables, eggs, and canned fish. (no other packaged or processed foods. And I don’t eat meat.)
I am so tired of this. If I can’t cure this I will never be able to be in a relationship again or have sex again, my romantic life will just be dead and I will be alone forever, which is really scary. I don’t want my life to be destroyed by a stupid f---ing yeast infection. Wtf. It’s just really frustrating, and I’m so tired of dealing with this. I am so stressed out by life and various other problems, I don’t need this too. I know stress is bad for yeast and have been trying not to be stressed, but that is hard when you have the set of problems I have got, plus this nfection.
Anyway, my questions for people in the forum are:
What is people’s experience with boric acid? Has anybody experienced something like this, it coming back after 2 weeks of boric acid?
Has anybody else done boric acid for a month?
What was your experience with boric acid?
I’m wondering if the yeast came back so fast just because it was before my period?
Maybe I need to take out the coconut oil and just use boric acid by itself? (Although people say it burns inside if you don’t mix it with something… that’s why I put the coconut oil.)
I think I have tried almost everything they say to do on every yeast infection and candida site that exists. Anyway if you have any other suggestions or input I’d like to hear it.
Thanks.
