Re: Need your opinions on best decision for a colon cancer patient
Thank you so much everyone for your replies! Really appreciated!
My concern is the time factor. Bill Henderson (http://www.beating-cancer-gently.com/) and Webster Kehr (http://www.cancertutor.com/) are both saying that one cannot survive for too long with a blocked colon, and this is one of those rare situations where surgery to remove the tumor is the only choice, if only to save the life of the patient. Alternative methods usually take long to shrink the tumor and the patient may not have enough time.
Bill and Webster are taking about surgery, not radiation. But in my friend's case, surgery is not an option due to the weakness of the patient. The only option available (i.e., from mainstream medicine) is radiation. So I did some Googling on radiation therapy, and it seems that it can shrink a tumor quickly enough, albeit with much collateral damage. :( What I am not sure is which one is more damaging--radiation or surgery. If they are about the same, and surgery can be used in an emergency like this, then perhaps radiation can be used also, if it is the only choice.
How much time does it usually take to shrink a tumor with alternative methods? This is a very important factor to consider.
Do you know of any cancer survivors who had a blocked colon and used only alternative methods and no surgery/radiation and survived? It would be very helpful and relieving to see actual case examples of such people surviving this kind of situation by using alternative methods alone.
